Rejected By My Own Robot is a disobedient kissing robot…one that will always reject its users’ advances. The big, red mechanical lips will extend gently toward the user as they inch closer. But the kiss will never be consummated: move too quickly or get too close and the lips will quickly retract, ultimately rejecting the user every time.
This device uses humor and provocative design to subvert users’ expectations around technology, specifically the assumption that technology will always increase our efficiency and be a reliable source of pleasure.
Furthermore, this piece points to the paradoxes of intimacy and desire in the digital age. "Rejected By My Own Robot" encourages viewers to question the implications of our passive dependence on technologies that promise easy pleasures, but may ultimately displace the authenticity and complexity of human connection.
